PREFACE

Mugla, with its rich historical, natural, and cultural resources, has always been a prominent source of attraction all over the world, due to the abundance of antique settlements in the vicinity. There are over 100 established antique cities at Mugla, with new discoveries as more research and excavations are carried out in the region.
Surveys and archaeological excavations and reconstruction work are presently carried out in the area. In addition, special efforts have been made with the purpose of updating the museums in and around Mugla in line with contemporary standards, as well as for providing easier access to historical sites. Our chief aim in these efforts is to enhance the popularity of our province.
This document, prepared with joint participation of the Directory of Culture of Mugla and the Directors of Museums in Mugla, includes concise and essential information, both for local and for foreign visitors, with regard to museums and historical sites in our vicinity.
I wish to express my thanks to all concerned, for their endeavours in the preparation of this book.
